Resources for School and College Associations

This TUAA Toolkit has been designed as a collection of resources, divided by topic, to make it easier for your school or college alumni association officers to find information regarding alumni association operations and the TUAA’s policies and offerings as it relates to your association.

FAQ

Is the TUAA and or/our alumni association sales tax exempt?

No. While the University and your school or college are sales tax exempt, the TUAA is not. As school/college alumni associations carry the TUAA’s tax identification number and fall under its organizational umbrella, school/college alumni associations are likewise, not sales tax exempt.

How do I apply for project funds from the TUAA?

For enhancing alumni engagement at the school or college level, each school/college alumni association may apply once annually for a project grant from the TUAA. This allows for programming dollars for projects meeting TUAA and Temple priorities, such as professional networking, student and young engagement and collaborative partnerships with other schools or units. Click here for the Project Grants application.

What is the purchasing process within the TUAA?

Item totals less than $5,000 require an invoice, valid vendor W-9 or Employer Identification Number (EIN) - whichever is applicable, sent to Alumni and Constituent Engagement's Operations Manager. Once received, this information is transferred to Accounts Payable and typically paid out in 5-7 business days. Item totals above $5,000 typically take 7-10 business days and may require more information (such as a contract); please contact Alumni and Constituent Engagement's Manager in this instance.

How do I inform Temple of changes to my alumni board?

Alumni and Constituent Engagement will ask you for updates to your officers and board on an annual basis. Your updates will be made to the university’s central alumni database and will allow Alumni and Constituent Engagement to keep you apprised of TUAA and university events and announcements.

As association president, what is my role on the TUAA?

Currently, all alumni association presidents are members of the TUAA Parliament and its School/College Presidents Committee. The TUAA Parliament meets twice a year and the committee two or three times per year. The Presidents Committee discusses programs available to the alumni associations and provides updates that will assist presidents in their roles. Additionally, it troubleshoots issues of concern and encourages collaborations between associations and Alumni and Constituent Engagement. Keep  Alumni and Constituent Engagement apprised of changes to your board when requested annually and at any other time during the year by emailing updates to Christine Brady, Director of School and College Programs at: christine.brady@temple.edu. Changes will be reflected in the university’s alumni database.

Is my association eligible for a stipend? How do I receive one?

Officially recognized school and college alumni associations that don’t have a dues component are eligible for a TUAA operating stipend of $2,500 once per fiscal year. Associations with an operating fund balance lower than $6,000 will receive the $2,500 stipend from the TUAA on a rolling basis during the fiscal year. No application is necessary.

How can I park on campus?

During the regular academic year (fall and spring), Alumni Association boards are eligible for complimentary parking for weeknight board meetings on Main Campus in the Diamond Street Lot (1140 W. Diamond Street) with advance notice to .

When emailing Parking Services you must provide the name of your group, the date and time of the meeting, and approximate number of cars expected. A minimum of 48-72 hours is recommended to assure all messages are received and in place (including instructions for parking attendants).
