George Lane, Barnett College of Public Health | Gates Scholarship

Growing up in North Philadelphia, George Lane always admired the Temple students he saw in his neighborhood. This nursing major and recipient of the prestigious Gates Scholarship is the first in his family to attend college. The scholarship covers six years of education, helping George pursue his dream of becoming an oncologist at Fox Chase Cancer Center in memory of his late brother. Grateful for the support that made college possible, he’s eager to give back to the Temple community that, in his words, “already feels like home.”

Denise Thoa Nguyen, Barnett College of Public Health | Frieda and Robert Agnew Scholarship

As a first-generation college student, Denise Thoa Nguyen has faced challenges on her academic journey, but her perseverance continues to drive her success. Receiving the Frieda and Robert Agnew Scholarship allows her to continue pursuing her dreams and focus on achieving her goals at Temple University. “The earnest investment in my future goals will not be forgotten.”

Matthias C. Robinson Sr., School of Engineering | Broad Street Finish Line Grant Scholarship

As a civil engineering major balancing full-time work and evening classes, Matthias C. Robinson Sr. is grateful for the Broad Street Finish Line Grant Scholarship, which has eased financial pressures and allowed him to stay focused on his studies. “This award has made a significant impact on my ability to pursue my education and achieve my goals,” he said. The support has strengthened his commitment to finishing his degree strong and has inspired him to serve as a role model for other nontraditional students pursuing their education at Temple.

Sabina Pawlowska-Kawiiso, College of Liberal Arts | Joel M. Schafer Scholarship

A first-generation immigrant from Poland, Sabina Pawlowska-Kawiiso works two jobs while earning her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice at Temple University. Sabina remains deeply grateful for the Joel M. Schafer Scholarship, which provided vital support and encouragement during her studies. “As a girl from a small city in Poland, I never dared to dream of moving to the U.S. on my own and having these amazing opportunities,” she said. “This award motivates me to keep working hard and give back to those around me.”

Daniel Sayinal, School of Engineering | Miller Scholarship

As a mechanical engineering major and the first in his family to pursue higher education, Daniel Sayinal sees the Miller Scholarship as both financial relief and a source of inspiration. “Your generosity has not only lifted financial burdens but has become an encouragement for me and my family,” he said. The scholarship allows Daniel to focus more deeply on his studies and participate in robotics projects that enhance his learning experience. Grateful for the opportunity, he hopes to pay this kindness forward by creating positive change within his community and field.
